I was asked by Tiny Showcase to take part in their new project of designing a rubber stamp & mini print.. The result is the snowflake/mountain graphic in a 3 inch x 3 inch rubber stamp and also as two different two color mini prints which are foil printed, which is the metallic printing like that on a pencil. You can purchase all three as a little set for $17.50 USD here.

I had a busy January working on some things for Tiny Showcase to be released later this year, a catalog photo shoot for David's Bridal, an installation at Urban Outfitters in Texas & and I started working on an installation for The Standard in Hollywood which will be up from mid February - mid March.

I've got a solo show in SF, entitled "Of Woe & Magic," opening on Friday October 1, 2010 at Hello by Candystore Collective which is located at 2226 Bush St. The opening reception is from 6:30-8:30 PM, come out and say "hi!" The show runs from the first of October until the first of November. Here's a little about the show :

Of Woe & Magic is the beauty of being alone in the desert and under the moon. I want to watch the dying suns and witness the new ones being born. Everything to and from dust. I miss you already. Turquoise jewelry, geodesic domes, telepathy & a feather in your hair. I want to run naked in the sunshine with you. It’s about all the love I have for everything. There may be a crystal or two involved, sorry, I tried to keep it scientific. Let’s all make something by hand. I sewed, printed, and painted this. It is only the beginning. Everything is infinite. It will last forever & it will also end on November 1, 2010.

Just spent the last week in Las Vegas for the apparel trade shows Magic / Project / Pool etc. Had a great time with the 2K By Gingham crew.. super big thank you to them for bringing me out for the show! Also had a chance to hang out with my old friends over at Poketo and got to finally meet the Blood Is The New Black crew. I've got some new T's with Blood Is The New Black being released this winter season.. Asides from hanging out with everyone, we also went to an aquarium, rode a roller coaster & went to the Liberace Museum. Awesome times.

It's been a few weeks since I've gotten back to Los Angeles, and I just wanted to give a big thank you to everyone in the EU.. had such an amazing trip! I was really thrilled and honored to have my show at Analogue Books, and it was amazing.. so many people came out and I got to hang out with friends and met some rad & talented people I'd been talking to for a while via the internet box. I've got images of the show on my updated site here (under the label Analogue Books).The first image above is of Russell & Julie of Analogue & myself at the opening night of my show, and I can't thank them enough for the hospitality and for just being so amazingly magically awesome. I got to spend a week in Edinburgh setting up the show and just hanging out with friends : Verity Keniger, David Galletly, Jen Collins, Lizzy Stewart & Jez Burrows. Thanks for coming out, helping, showing me around, baking me cakes & for hanging out with me in my new favorite place ever, Mr. Wood's Fossil Shop!I'd also like to thank David Galletly, the uber talented artiste, for making this rad video of my show.All of Europe was in bloom, and it was unbelievable.. I've never seen so much lilac as in Sweden! & those are some images of quite possibly the most amazing wall I've ever seen in Oslo, Norway.Saw so many amazing little cottages in Sweden & the amazing Buddy Electric Car all over Norway!For those that want to see the full adventure, you can see even more photos of my show here, photos of the UK GOD SAVE THE QUEEN and of Sweden & Norway RETURN TO THE MOTHERLAND. & lastly a video of Russell & Julie's adorable son, Rudy (age 5), singing a song from a play he was going to be in.. and then promptly taking our money and running away :)

Analogue Books solo show!

I'm heading back over to the UK for my next solo show entitled "All I Heard Was The Echo In The Light" which opens on June 4th at Analogue Books in Edinburgh, Scotland. There is a bunch of stuff in the works for this one... all new collages, prints, wooden people & lots & lots of flags. Analogue is also producing a 2 color T shirt, seen below, and there will also be a a new limited zine/catalog with screen printed pages and other goodies.

Here's a little bit about the show:

All I Heard Was The Echo In The Light is sunshine, desert & succulents. It’s going outside at night, watching the dying suns and witnessing the new ones being born. Everything to and from dust. Geodesic domes, the 1960’s, the sky & being alone. It’s about all the people I have never met. It’s about all of us living and about all of us dying. It’s about all the love I have for everything. There may be a crystal or two involved, sorry, I tried to keep it scientific. It’s sewn. It’s printed. It’s painted. It’s 100% handmade. Everything is infinite. It will last forever & it will also end on July 10, 2010.

I'm also going on a super abridged tour of Scandinavia with stops in Gothenburg & Oslo.. so come out and say "hello!"

I've got a brand new desktop wallpaper available over at the amazing Kitsune Noir blog.. and it's for pretty much any size screen from your ginormous monitor to your PSP & it's totally free! It's half computer drawing & real life paper and pen drawing with some old book pages I cut up and scanned in. I can never seem to make anything solely on the computer.. Super big thanks to Kitsune Noir, where you can literally get lost for hours looking at pretty things.

Hello by Candystore Collective

The San Francisco boutique, Candystore, just opened a second location @ 2226 Bush St (between Steiner & Filmore) and asked me to do a permanent installation in the shop... So I packed up and headed to SF for a week and designed and built this giant wooden piece.. The new store is called Hello by Candystore Collective and they are having a big grand opening party on Friday April 23rd, go out and see it all in person!

Grove bamboo Iphone cases

From Poketo & Kitsune Noir about the show - "'Los Angeles I'm Yours' transforms the Space 1520Twenty Gallery into a living art market. Filled with an eclectic mix of found objects, these vintage pieces are given new life as over 30 artists reinterpret and reincarnate them into art."

I just got back from an amazing trip to the UK..I went to London for a bit and met up with the amazing design firm Winkreative, the amazing print / artwork producers P.O.W. & with friend / author / art director extraordinaire Tristan Manco. Great to finally meet everyone in person and for getting the grand tours of the facilities!Then I headed west to Bristol for my 2 person show, entitled Land & Sky, with the lovely and talented Lizzy Stewart at Here Gallery. I had the best times and bought way too many books and ate way too many delicious pie & mash combos @ Pieminister. A giant THANK YOU must go out to Ben & Gavin from Here Gallery for inviting us to show at their gallery and for letting us crash on their floor.. & also to Lizzy & Jez for just being rad. Also a HUGE thank you is in order for Molly @ The Neon Hive & Carla @ Scooter And Jinx for driving 9 hours & all their help & support amongst many other things. (with a nod to David @ Vannen Watches for putting us in touch in the first place.)Then it was off to Liverpool where I was interviewed by Mike over at Thunder Chunky and got to spend some time with him as well as Glenn @ Sparkle Media. Finally finishing the trip with an amazing visit to Edinburgh and old friends Russell & Julie @ Analogue Books, who, along with their son Rudy & cat Piglet, were the most amazing & gracious hosts. I also had a bit of work to do while in Edinburgh, Julie was kind enough to ask me to be a part of Early Griffin Press, so I had some new 3 color prints to sign.. to be released in the upcoming months!THANKS to everyone mentioned above and to all the other rad people I met along the way and those that came out to the exhibit in Bristol & especially to the taxi drivers who talked football with me since apparently no artists in the UK follow the greatest game ever invented. I'm going to be doing a mini tour of the UK this January because I've got an exhibition with the brilliantly talented Lizzy Stewart @ Here Gallery in Bristol. The exhibit, entitled Land & Sky, opens on Thursday January 21 from 7-9 pm @ Here Gallery which is located at : 108 Stokes Croft, Bristol, BS1 3RU, UK. We'll both be there, and I'll actually be in Bristol all week leading up to the opening.. I had an amazing few weeks in Chicago working on a rad project for Puma.. & got to hang out with friends I've literally known since I was 5, awesome to see you Eric & Catherine (soon to be Dr.)! Also, got to hang out with the always awesome Ben Floeter @ Suddenly It's Real (congrats to you and mama Natalie!), Floyd Davis @ Artpentry & thanks to Cody Hudson for the much anticipated & super awesome lunch @ Hot Dougs's.

We all went to some awesome restaurants that I just can't stop saying enough great things about: The Publican, Lula Cafe, Xoco, Frontera Grill and Orange. I also went to the Christkindlmarket like everyday for brat's w/ kraut and coco.. so rad.

Eric told me that Chicago has the world's largest reflective bean, which is located in Millennium Park, which leads me to think that there are other reflective bean sculptures of lesser grandeur out in the world... which is sort of weird. Anyway... CHICAGO = AWESOME!!!

Vast Happenings // Giant Robot NYC exhibit

I've got a 4 person show entitled "Vast Happenings" which opens on October 17 at Giant Robot NYC with my friends Simon Peplow, Hannah Stouffer & Supermundane... and all of us will be in attendance for the opening. Hannah & myself coming out from LA and Simon & Supermundane both coming out from the UK. I really can't wait for this one, it should be an amazing show and it's really rad to get to show with such a great group of people.. hope you can make it! I have been working on a collaboration with the skate company C1RCA and the first round of shoes and T's are being released in the spring of 2010. Here are some preview shots of the first men's and women's shoes I did for them that are to be released... these are completely made from selvage denim and have t's to match.

I have been a fan of Giant Robot since I was in college and have been lucky enough to be involved in numerous exhibitions at GR2 in Los Angeles, GRSF & GRNY.. I am even more honored to be a part of the Giant Robot 15 year anniversary exhibition taking place on October 24, 2009 - January 24, 2010 at the Japanese American National Museum. In 1994, Giant Robot was born with the purpose of documenting and
promoting new, up-and-coming, underdog, overlooked, and hybrid Asian
and Asian-American popular culture. Fifteen years later, the self-
published magazine has not only evolved from a stapled-and-folded zine
into a full-color, glossy publication with an international following,
but also opened trend-setting shops and influential art galleries in
Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York City. To celebrate the
magazine's longevity, energy, and loyal readership, the second Giant
Robot Biennale is being hosted by the Japanese American National
Museum in Downtown Los Angeles from October 24, 2009 to January 24,
2010. The event will feature several exhibits, including the following:

To provide a visual overview of the Giant Robot aesthetic, publisher
Eric Nakamura is curating artwork by individuals who have contributed
to shows at Giant Robot's galleries, been featured in the pages of the
magazine, or even contributed cover art. The main hall will include
installations by David Choe, Theo Ellsworth, James Jean, kozyndan,
Stella Lai, Jack Long, Albert Reyes, Souther Salazar, Rob Sato, Jeff
Soto, and Deth P. Sun. A second hall will include the contributions of

I was asked to design some promo materials, a poster (above) & a postcard (below) for a new project called Design Box Collective. Each edition will be themed, this theme being "sky" for witch I did some cloud/rain graphics because I figured clouds are the only somewhat permanent things in the sky. Info about the project is below and is from the DBC website.

"Design Box Collective presents a unique, themed collection featuring rising indie artists and designers from around the world. This limited edition collection illustrates the innovative techniques and materials of the burgeoning handmade movement, promoting each contributer and their craft, as well as providing a stage for new perspectives and purposeful design."

This weekend in San Francisco Giant Robot is having a 15 year celebration art exhibition.. I am so honored to have been asked to participate.. I remember when I was in college in Baltimore and went to Tower Records and picked up a magazine with Money Mark on the cover wearing a cowboy hat... I've been hooked ever since. I've got a solo show of new mixed media pieces and letterpress prints entitled, "Travels In Time & Space" which opens on Thursday June 4th in Los Angeles at Ghettogloss Gallery. The pieces are all influenced from things like the films Solaris and 2001: A Space Odysey as well as from the records "Before The Dawn Heals Us" by M83 and "Ladies And Gentleman We Are Floating In Space" by Spiritualized. I worked with my friends Will, Zach & Poketo on organizing a fund raiser / emotional booster for one of my favorite people, Justin Van Hoy, who has been suffering and battling with Leukemia for quite some time now. He has just been released from being in the hospital for 3 months undergoing chemo for the 2nd time, radiation & a bone marrow transplant. Justin, and his amazing wife, Holly, are struggling physically, mentally and financially. HunterGatherer // Todd St John & Gary Benzel

HunterGatherer is the design/film studio of Todd St. John and frequent collaborator Gary Benzel. I'm not sure who does what over there but it's amazing. I met Gary & Todd years ago when I first moved to California and I fell in love with their designs right away, half my house is products that they developed or prints they've made.. they are both extraordinarily talented designers and super, super nice guys. I was just looking over some of the films/animations over at the HunterGatherer site, and below are some of my all time favorites.. I just love these so much I had to share.. I have never been one for doing animation or any sort of motion graphics myself, but watching these makes me really rethink that. You can see how much fun they have while making all the things they do and it all looks so beautiful, from the sets to the graphics.. anyway, here is a sampling from HunterGatherer

I just saw this amazing music video for the song "No One Does It Like You" by the Department Of Eagles... I'm a huge fan of Marcel Dzama's work and it's so great to see his costume designs and basically his illustrations come to life! and the song is really rad too, reminds me of the Arcade Fire, and that is meant to be very complimentary... anyway, enjoy!

Giant Robot San Francisco has a group show opening this Friday the 27th of March called "Game Over, Continue?" which is a video game themed art show which features a piece from me as well as many other amazing artists. I made a collage of the Super Mario Bros 1UP mushroom.. btw Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii was the best thing about my recovery from hand surgery last year, I just got to sit and play all day completely guilt free. My Lithuanian friends over at Moytoy have curated an exhibition called Phobia, featuring some artwork from me, in conjunction with the Pictoplasma Pictopia conference in Berlin which begins on March 17 and goes until March 27. The exhibit is at the Berlin boutique called Talka which is located at: Boxhagener Str. 44, Berlin, Germany. Tons of fun stuff going on in Berlin for the conference.. wish I could be there, but I'm stuck in LA working.. I've got a bunch of work in a small group show called "For The Love Of..." at Giant Robot San Francisco which opens on Saturday February 21 and runs until March 25. I also made a free limited to 50 copies zine for the show which will only be available at the opening... so come out and grab one! The show also features work by : Albert Reyes, Aaron Martinez, Joe To, Ben King, Robert Belim, Daria Tessler, Tim Gough, Jesse LeDoux, Alyana Udesen, Matt Furie & Sidney Pink. NYC SOLO SHOW // SCOOP NYC

I am very pleased and excited to announce my first New York City solo show entitled "Whatever You Love, You Are" which opens on Thursday February 12, 2009 at Scoop NYC in SOHO. The show will feature all new mixed media abstract / pattern works which is sort of revisiting of old imagery for me, but it's more abstract then before in that the work is merely about pattern, shape and color. I'm really so excited about this show as it's the first show post my hand surgeries of last year, and the work is a lot different then what I have been making recently. I will be in NYC installing the show from the 9th, so if you are around stop in and say "hello," or else I hope to see you at the opening!

2001 A Space Odyssey v. Spiritualized

That opening line to the same titled 1997 album by Spiritualized has always had me wanting to do just that, float away in the dreamy & beautiful vacuum of space... now I can. 2001 : A Spiritualized Odyssey in HD is an amazing match of music with what is quite possibly the most beautiful film ever. Whether you love it, hate it or are confused by it... no one can deny the amazing visual power of Kubricks 2001. I strongly recommend downloading it here or sitting down and watching all 19 parts in HD, on youtube and btw I think this guy best explains the obelisk : explanation part 1 & explanation part 2.

leather book covers // Engrave Your Book

I designed some leather book covers laser etched with 2 patterns for Engrave Your Book... one being a modern leaf pattern and the other being a bunch of owls. They fit Moleskine sketchbooks perfectly and have a card pocket as well. The leaf pattern one is available for purchase here and the owl one is available for purchase here.
